  • Unsalted Butter: This adds richness to the toffee

  • Caster Sugar: Adds sweetness for the important toffee layer

  • Saltine or Ritz Crackers: Any salty cracker will do but square shapes would be best to allow for a solid base layer

  • 200g dark chocolate chips: Good quality chocolate will provides a rich and luscious chocolate layer.

  • Zest of 1 orange: Brings the orange flavour to this bark and adds a fresh, aromatic touch.

  • Equipment:

    • 9x13 baking sheet

    • Baking paper

    • Medium saucepan

    • Thermometer

    • Offset Spatula

How to make Chocolate Orange Toffee Bark

  1. Prepare a Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, ensuring it covers the edges for easy cleanup then add salted crackers across the bottom until fully covered

  1. Make a Toffee: Add the butter and sugar to a medium saucepan and heat gently until the two and melted together. Stir frequently until the toffee begins to boil then wait for it to reach 150C on a thermometer.

  2. Layer on the toffee: Pour the toffee across the top of the salted crackers and spread it out until the crackers are well coated.

  3. Add the Chocolate: Sprinkle over dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate immediately and leave for it to melt. Once melted spread it across the toffee layer

  4. Grate over Orange zest: For the orange flavour, grate over the zest of an orange

 

5. Chill to Set: Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours, or until the chocolate is fully hardened.

6. Break Into Pieces: Once set, remove the bark from the fridge and peel off the parchment paper. Use your hands to break the bark into irregular pieces.

7. Serve or Store: Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks
