Key tools you will need:
Standing Mixer or Large Mixing Bowl
Electric Whisk
Spatula
Flat Baking Sheet
Non-stick Baking Paper
1tsp Cookie Scoop
Dark Black Cocoa Powder
What is black cocoa powder?
Unlike ordinary cocoa powder, black cocoa powder is a natural unsweetened cocoa powder that has been treated with alkaline to neutralise its acidity. This treatment gives it a super rich dark colour with a deeper and intense chocolate flavour which is perfect for these cookies.
Bring the colours together | Use a teaspoon to portion the dough flavours into little balls, then one by one bring them together in a triangle shape, then roll them around with your hands to form a ball.
Bake the cookies | Lay the cookies out onto a lined baking tray and bake for 10 minutes until the edges have set. If the centres still look a little under-baked don’t worry as this is what makes them super chewy.
How to make these:
Prepare the ingredients | Ahead of mixing any ingredients, so you don’t miss anything out it’s best to get all the ingredients measured out and ready, especially the butter as you’ll need to make sure it is at room temperature.
Make the base dough | The dough comes together really easily. Simply beat the butter and sugar together until creamy, then add the eggs and vanilla, followed by the dry ingredients. Easy Peasy!
Colour and flavour the doughs | Once the cookie dough is made and ready, scrape it out and shape into a rough ball. Divide the dough into three even portions, you can do this by eye or if you like perfection, you can measure them out to equal weights.
Leave a portion of the vanilla dough to one side and then to make the orange dough add one portion back into your bowl or food mixer and add the orange food colouring, orange zest and orange flavouring and mix it to combine.
For the chocolate portion, wipe the bowl down and add one portion into the bowl with the black cocoa powder and mix to combine.
